A call to Pennsylvania’s Engineers, we need your help to repair Pennsylvania’s Infrastructure!

The Pennsylvania Sections of ASCE is releasing an update of the PA Infrastructure Report Card on May 24^th, 2010.  The report card will alert the public and our elected officials of a crisis in the condition of the Commonwealth’s Infrastructure. 

The Pennsylvania Sections of the American Society of Civil Engineers with the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania and other allied organizations will be visiting our elected officials again in Harrisburg on Monday May 24, 2010.  We need your participation.  

Here’s what we need from you:

-Your commitment to travel to Harrisburg on May 24, 2010 to participate in the day’s events.

-An hour or two of your time before the event to familiarize yourself with the findings of the PA Infrastructure Report Card (to be forwarded to registrants) and the industry positions on the funding needs for transportation and the proposed sales tax on A/E services.

Here’s what you will get from participating in this event:

-Satisfaction that you are involved in your community and improving Pennsylvania.

-The opportunity to start or strengthen your relationship with elected officials.

-Networking with other engineers from across Pennsylvania.

If you are interested in attending the Engineer’s Legislative Day in Harrisburg, please register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GT7PZ63.  Meetings with Elected Officials will be scheduled for you. 

If engineers don’t tell their elected officials about the importance of our infrastructure, who will?  We encourage you to ask your employer to support you in this important event.

Scot Horst, Senior Vice President for LEED at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is widely recognized as one of the key leaders of the sustainable design movement. Scot was previously president of 7group, a leading green building consultancy, and president of Athena Institute, a non-profit committed to the evaluation of environmental impacts of buildings through lifecycle assessment. Since 2005, Scot has served as chair of USGBC’s LEED Steering Committee, the body that has principle responsibility for developing and implementing the LEED rating system. For this work, he is the 2008 recipient of USGBC’s Leadership Award in the LEED category. He has recently co-authored “An Integrative Design Manual: Redefining the Practice of Sustainability.” Scot is a LEED AP and LEED faculty member and has been a contributing author to the LEED reference guides. May 12, 2010 – Environmental and Water Resources Committee

Beltzville Dam State Park – George Sauls, Northern Area Engineer U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will present on the construction, operation and maintenance of the dam. The meeting will be held at the dam in Lehighton, PA.  Look for the announcement in the near future that provides details of the meeting.
